Details Matter
The entire point of creating these miniature traffic signals was to make them as realistic and authentic as we possibly could.
We aimed to replicate not just the appearance, but also the functionality of actual traffic signals.
To accomplish this, we started by scanning a Crouse-HInds Type-M traffic light so as to create a highly detailed 3D model.
This process required meticulous attention as we sought to capture every nuance of the original design.
To do accomplish this, we disassembled the light and scanned each part separately. Next, we optimized the 3D models to convert them into CAD drawings. This meticulous care ensures that each miniature reflects the real-world counterpart accurately. This step is critical as even slight discrepancies would affect the final result. Ultimately, the drawings were created at a 1:1 scale, allowing us the ability to scale them to any size we chose.
From there, the parts were made into an assembly using the CAD software to ensure all of the pieces fit together correctly. During this process, we maintained the integrity of the design to ensure no detail was lost. Once that was verified, the parts were individually scaled down for printing. This combination allows us to balance quality and speed during production, ensuring each component meets our standards.
We use both a high resolution 4K printer for most of the components and an extremely high resolution, 14K printer for parts which require this level of detail, such as the lenses. These meticulous techniques ensure that the final product meets both aesthetic and functional expectations.
Details such as the intricately designed ribbing located on both the top and bottom sections of the housings, the precisely aligned ‘teeth’ that mimic those found on the original prototype, and the individually crafted optics integrated into the lenses all contribute to the overall authenticity.
The choice of materials used in these models further enhances their authenticity, allowing them to closely resemble the original designs both visually and texturally. We have put a tremendous amount of work and effort into ensuring that these models are the finest replicas ever produced.
